We have just returned from a relaxing one week holiday at a hotel in Newquay, Cornwall
Whilst in Newquay, we stayed at The Esplanade Hotel - We had great expectations of the Esplande Hotel. But unfortunately our room did not live up to the image created by their website
We felt that our Sea View room offered poor value for money. We honestly felt like we were staying in a hostel. The room was in a very poor state decor wise. The toilet / bathroom in particular was very bad - looking like a public toilet. No effort at all having been made by the hotel to make it look at all attractive - and it smelt of stale urine ! ... we complained about the smell and the condition of our room immediately of course- and they sent somebody to clean the room - but basically told us "tough" with regards to our room - and that "we were not obliged to stay" (we had already paid). The smell was back by the next day ... basically the bathroom has a LINO! flooring over creaky wooden floorboards - and i suspect that the floor under the lino was soaked in pee ! (the lino was all puffed up around the base of the toilet)
Breakfast at the Esplanade Hotel was OK - even good ... a cooked buffet - with Cereals, Toast etc. Good service from friendly waiters / waitresses
The location of the Esplanade Hotel Newquay is very good - being right on South Fistral beach.
The swimming pools - the outside one is pretty shabby and FREEZING.... and the inside one is steaming hot - but not nice as no natural light (kind of underground) and the "deep end" is in the centre of the pool - so shallow all around the edge - and deep in the middle - so not very safe for little ones
Before we made our booking with The Esplanade Hotel, we checked if their was adequate parking - and we were told that Esplanade Hotel had adequate parking - but in fact the parking spaces are very limited, and many guests were left struggling to find parking spaces at the end of each day.
We were gutted that we wasted almost £1000.00 of our money on a week during August at the Esplanade Hotel. We felt that the Explanade Hotel website is very misleading indeed. During our one week at the Esplande Hotel we heard & saw many other guests complaining about their rooms - many stating that they felt they had been mislead by the Esplande Hotels website.

Threadbare towels - some even had holes in them !

Many other guests have posted reviews (good and bad) about The Esplanade Hotel Newquay at Tripadvisor and since the time of our visit we understand that many rooms and public areas at the Esplanade Hotel have been refurbished to a higher standard.
